Welcome to our Blog!

From our humble beginnings in a Starbucks coffee shop nine years ago, to our 1100+ member base today, the volunteer organization From the Heart continues its charitable mission.

From the Heart is involved in numerous projects, from making chemo hats for local cancer centers, preemie baby hats for the tiniest of our recipients, sleeping bags and warm mitten sets for the homeless in the Richmond community.

Heart volunteers are constantly finding new opportunities to help, and encourage anyone who knows of an unmet need in the community to please bring it to our attention.

We invite anyone interested in joining our cause to join us by email, web site, or check the latest newsletter for our schedule and just show up! View our urgent needs and current projects.

Volunteers are angels in disguise. Spread your wings…Join From the Heart!

  1. I work in a Richmond area hospital as a Therapist. One of my Oncology patients had the most beautiful and unique
comforters I have seen in years if not ever. I asked her about it and she told me about the organization and how many
compliments and inquiries she gets about the comforter. I can tell that it is a real comfort to her.
I just felt compelled to write and express how wonderful it is that people, even today, will spend the free time and energy
and money to be part of such a wonderful endeavor. May God Bless all of you who are part of this wonderful organization.

  2. My sister was at VCU/MCV in the palliative care unit in January, 2011 and “From the Heart” stitchers came up and offered “prayer quilts” to the patients. We took one and placed it on my sister where it stayed until she passed away. It now stays in my brother-in-law’s truck behind his head. We are so appreciative of the kindness shown to us by the stitchers and wanted them to know how much they meant to us. May God bless all of those who helped in this effort.

  3. I want to thank you so much for the port pillow I received from Regina V. Kenner, RN the Cancer Navigator Program Coordinator at Mary Washington Healthcare in Fredericksburg, VA. I was newly diagnosed with colon cancer and my husband was looking for a support group for our family and found Regina. She presented the pillow to me and it has been such a comfort.

    • Sorry it has taken a while to reply but thank you so much for letting us know the pillow was a comfort to you. It is such an encouragement for us to know that our items have actually gone into the hands of the person who needed them :-)

  4. I love being part of this wonderful organization and really look forward to the Retreats each year! I have learned a lot from just sitting and stitching with other members, who willingly share their knowledge and helpful hints at various meeting sites, and through the free classes offered. These new skills will help me produce much finer and fancier items for someone in need. Thank you so much!!
