Jan Hanks made all of the adorable hearts project bags for our Retreat attendees. She spent many days in her sewing room making each bag for us. Thank you, Jan, for your time and dedication to this project. These bags contained folding scissors, a From the Heart tape measure, a big eye needle, stitch markers, and sock yarn that is great for socks or toys.
Rebecca Kennedy and her team created stunning centerpieces for the tables at the Retreat using two different shoe types as the vessel of the arrangements. Thank you again, Rebecca and team!
Tonia Neiter, Mary Dietz, Joyce Puller, and Tricia Ennis were our crochet and knit instructors. Their classes were well attended and enjoyed by all. Thank you, ladies! (Crochet instructions are found here and the knit instructions are found here.
Skya Stanley did a fabulous job of capturing the events of the day with her photography skills. We can relive the day every time we see these photos. Thank you, Skya!
Working the registration table again were Phyllis Turner and Beth Williamson. They spend their day “in the corner” of the room. Thanks, Phyllis and Beth!
Jacqueline Clare is the best “HEART” caller with a British accent that we’ve ever had. Thanks for your willingness to keep us on the edge of our seats in total silence, Jacqueline!
Betsy Vest, Capsen Stephens and Marilyn Hart somehow managed to keep all of the raffle tickets and grab bag seekers moving through the line. They did double duty by running prizes to the winners. Great job, ladies!
And what would a Retreat be without the excitement of seeing Matilde Woolcott’s beautiful sewn bags? Matilde, I cannot begin to imagine how many bags you have made for FtH through the years. We love each of them as much as we love you! Thank you!
Although there isn’t enough room to list all of the donors and volunteers who helped with the planning, implementation, execution, and clean-up, know that your willingness to help is greatly appreciated. Thank you to all who made this day such a treat for those who attended!

Make New Friends but Keep the Old. Some are Silver and Others Gold
August 24, 2019
The Place at Innsbrook
4036 Cox Rd., Glen Allen, VA 23060
Registration for the 2019 Retreat is now open. All registration forms must be in by July 31st, 2019 and must be mailed. They cannot be dropped in the box at the shop. Get yours in early to be sure of reserving your place. The Registration form is available HERE.
The always popular classes will be “Knitted Duplicate Stitch” taught by Beth Watkins, “Make a Necklace for Yourself or as a Gift” with Lizard Harper, “How to Crochet Two Rows at the Same Time” offered by Francine Nelson and Joyce Puller, and “Learn Portuguese Knitting” taught by Johnnie Wood. All classes will be offered twice, once in the morning and once again in the afternoon, but we can only accommodate a maximum of 10 people in each class. Therefore, we need people to register beforehand if they want to attend a class. Extra patterns and instructions will be available for all classes and will be available at our website after the Retreat but personal, hands-on, instruction can really only be made available for 20 people on the actual day of the Retreat so, please, let Tricia know if you want a seat in any of these classes. Please note that you must be already registered for the Retreat in order for a seat to be reserved for you.
The price of the 2019 Retreat will remain the same, at a suggested $40, as this helps defray our costs and The Place is, once again, working with us to keep our costs down. We will limit attendance to 200 again in 2019. If $40 is something you simply cannot afford but you would still like to attend, please contact either Lois or Tricia. All enquiries of this nature will be kept in strict confidence.
We have two confirmed speakers, Constance Jones with WRIC and Beverly Epps from John Randolph Medical Center.
Our gift to attendees this year will be a book of classes we have offered in the past. We will also have our door prizes and bingo prizes and, of course, our Raffle. Tickets for the Raffle will be $1 each or 6 for $5. Once again, our members have been very generous in donating beautiful hand-made, one of a kind, items to be raffled.
Don’t forget to send any ideas you have for “mixers” to Tricia at triciaennis2014@gmail.com, leaving her a note at the workshop, or phoning her at (804)683-9015.
